THE FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT PREVENTION STANDARD

1. The MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT LAW ENFORCEMENT ACT OF 1984

This law is designed to reduce the number of thefts and decrease the sale of stolen motor vehicle parts.

2. THE FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT PREVENTION STANDARD

The standard requires major original equipment motor vehicle parts be identified with the vehicle identification number (VIN) and replacement parts must have an identification marking. The standard is directed at potentially high theft vehicles and replacement parts for those vehicles.

3. VEHICLES AFFECTED

All 1992 model year and later Subaru SVX models starting with VIN NH100001 (see Service Bulletin 01-129-91 for applicable information on the SVX models), 1995 model year and later Legacy models, as detailed in Service Bulletin 01-138-95, and 1998 model year Forester models as detailed in this Service Bulletin.
